Overview

The year 2025 represents the 1700-year anniversary of the Council of Nicaea. While the history and theology of Nicaea is thoroughly discussed in academic literature, its importance is much less understood by the “normal Christian.” In the last ten to fifteen years, there has been a renaissance of studies on Nicaea, with works by scholars such as Lewis Ayres, John Behr, and Khaled Anatolis. These insights, however, need to be brought to a more general readership and allowed to impact the way a“normal Christian” understands Nicene theology, both its historical legacy and its modern relevance. In the following work, we aim to situate and explain Nicene theology for the modern Christian church. Specifically, this work will help lay Christian readers grow in their appreciation for Nicene theology and the ways it explains the biblical narrative as well as enhances their spiritual life.
